The Moon Gazer

The Moon Gazer

The Moon Gazer is the latest addition to the Broken grindstone collection here at Storrs wood. When carving this piece I had to keep an open mind and not force it in a direction it didn’t want to go to. That is why this carving is made up of Variety of symbols witch on there own have a meaning but when there are all shown together they create a greater meaning of unity and the cycle of life. The Hare at the top of sculpture has long been a symbol of fertility but is also a symbol of the cycle of night and day this is also where the carvings name came from. Then there is the horse resting on the side of the carving this symbolizes Freedom and sunlight. On the other side of the carving is a never ending circle that represents continuous life, towards the bottom of the sculpture there are toadstools, leaves and a log log this represents the earth that we live on. Finally in the centre of this sculpture is the angel that watches over it.
